January 31, 2006

«There have been some reports reaching me that some of the ‘Jack’ stations, and similar ‘adult hits’ stations are not as varied as they might say they are.

Reports have it that WCBS New York and KJQN Coalville/Salt Lake are skewing more rock/alternative, and leaving out the quirky mix of music that typifies the average adult hits station. This has led to low Arbitron numbers for those stations like these that have limited the styles aired in their playlists from what I have heard.

What makes a really good ‘Jack’ work? You have to be sure there is a wide variety of styles in the playlist. You have to be willing to include just about anything in the top-40 from about the late 60s to now, and really mix things up good. That will bring listeners back again and again to see what is going to play next».
